Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 relishes in freedom for the player. For most, being unleashed onto a fresh concrete jungle is what they want. However, many wonder if the Vicarious Vision‘s remake of the old PS1 classics added a story mode to attract new players. Maybe a rise to stardom, or Tony Hawk’s life? So, does Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 have a story mode? Or is it really all just about skating around the city?
Is There a Story Mode in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2?
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 doesn’t really have a story mode. What it has instead is a single-player campaign. The campaign brings the player to different locales, tasks them to complete various challenges, and then moves on once the player completes them.
The campaign brings you to all of the locations THPS has to offer; 19 in total. In order to visit all of them, you need to complete 80% of the objectives in the previous map.
You can actually start your campaign at the beginning of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 or 2. That’s because these maps are separated by the game that the levels originally came from. However, if you want to continue down the paths of either game, you need to complete the objectives on the map. These objectives range from collecting items to score competitions, so there’s always some new stuff to do.
There is an ending to the single-player campaign. We won’t spoil it here and there are a lot of challenges to take on beforehand! So, in that way, there is a tiny little narrative to the game. Though, really, the story is about your skater exploring this world and conquering it through pure skill.
