High on Life | Release Date, Platforms, Trailers, and More

All We Know About High on Life

Microsoft unveiled some very strange games during its recent Microsoft & Bethesda Showcase. These were not the most experimental games that these companies have put out, not by a long shot. But, some of these titles were definitely unexpected. Enter High On Life, a new game from Squanch Games. Here’s what we know about the High On Life release date, platforms, trailers, and more!

Everything We Know About High On Life

High on Life Starting Screen

High On Life is coming from the creative minds of Rick and Morty. Squanch Games also made Trover Saves the Universe, a comedy game with decent acclaim on both Steam and elsewhere. We don’t know much about this game, besides the short trailer that released during the event. However, details on the High On Life release date, gameplay, and more have already been revealed!

High On Life Release Date

When is HoL Released?

The High On Life release date is set for October 2022. That’s just in four months’ time! While developers do not specify a hard release date, this probably implies that they are fairly confident about their product.

This does not mean that they will not delay the release, and the lack of a hard date implies that they are not 100% certain about the game’s final product. It is exciting to know that it is almost done, but prepare for the possibility of delay that comes from AAA game development.

High On Life Trailer

Our first and only High On Life trailer was released during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase. We can likely expect additional information to come in a few weeks or months from this channel.

High On Life Gameplay

High on Life Gameplay

From the look of things, High On Life appears to be a first-person shooter a la Doom. However, there appear to be many comedy elements that will make this game different from other members of the FPS genre.

The story of this game is comedy-centric. Players will control a bounty hunter who must fight against an alien drug cartel. The cartel is trying to kidnap humans to make their Hyperbong products. We don’t know too much more about the player character themselves, other than the fact that they seem like they’re a human who is currently on another planet.

All of your guns will have faces and voice lines, as they seem to be aliens of some shape or form. We do not yet know if you can turn off the voices for your firearms, but it seems that they are otherwise quite chatty. Whether or not that is a good thing will be player preference. The talented voice actors will certainly make the game memorable, and the primary firearm of the game should be from a fairly recognizable voice actor.

The firearms themselves have combat purposes, but also some problem solving capabilities. From the trailer, one firearm was capable of creating platforms for the player. Other abilities include a launching orb.

It also appears that the game hinges along fighting a series of Alien druglords. From gameplay screens, there are six individual boss characters that players will almost certainly encounter. Players will be going into firefights in multiple different locations.

High On Life Platforms

Xbox Logo

At the time of writing, High On Life platforms are confirmed for Xbox Series S | X, the Xbox One, and PC through the Microsoft Store. As of now, we do not know if there are any plans to bring this game to other consoles at a later point in time.

Squanch Games’s previous titles have been on multiple consoles, so there is a chance that developers plan on moving the game to other platforms after launch. However, its previous games did not start on Xbox, so don’t get your hopes up if you’re a PlayStation owner!

We also do not know if developers plan on bringing the game to Steam or the Epic Games Store after launch. As of right now, only stores that carry Microsoft’s branding will have access to the game. Thankfully, all PCs with Windows will have access to the Microsoft Store.

Will High On Life Be On the Xbox Game Pass?

HoL Game Pass

Yes, High On Life will be immediately available on the Xbox Game Pass at launch. It will likely stay on Game Pass for at least a year.

Game Pass, like for all games, will allow players to play High On Life on consoles and PC. Just make sure to link your account to the platform that you’d want to run it on! You’ll also be able to cloud save between accounts, as long as each platform has your account name on it.

That’s everything we know about the High On Life release date, gameplay, trailers, and more. As we get closer to the October 2022 release, we will likely learn more!
