Excitement is high among fans of Overwatch, the revolutionary hero-based FPS that won over both hearts and minds back in 2016. Following the announcement of its sequel, fans have been looking forward to all sorts of new features including new game modes, Heroes, and new maps. Blizzard also confirmed that players of both Overwatch 2 and the original game will share a multiplayer experience. However, this fact has left some wondering if the game will also support cross-play with other platforms. Will Overwatch 2 support cross-platform play? Here’s what we know.
Will Overwatch 2 be cross-platform?
As of this moment, Blizzard has not yet confirmed whether or not Overwatch 2 will support cross-platform multiplayer. Considering the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic, it is unlikely that we will be finding out about this possible feature any time soon. With that said, the developers have confirmed that Overwatch 2 will support a shared multiplayer experience between players of the first and second games.
Other previously announced features that will be in Overwatch 2 include a new PvE mode with new story missions, plus huge graphical upgrades and new character models for all heroes of the previous game. The sequel will also have a new PvP game mode called Push, which is a 6v6 mode where players fight for dominance over a huge robot. In addition, players who buy the sequel will have all their achievements, progress, and unlockables like skins carry over from the previous game. Overwatch 2 will also feature new heroes such as Echo, who was teased in a recent trailer.
While Overwatch 2 cross-play hasn’t yet been confirmed, it hasn’t been ruled out, either. The sequel’s cross-compatibility with previous versions at least hints that cross-platform play could be possible. However, with the pandemic continuing to affect businesses worldwide, there’s no telling when we’ll be able to learn more about the game’s other planned features.
