Maid of Sker Release Date Revealed

Wales Interactive, the studio behind games such as Don’t Knock Twice and The Complex, has announced that its new horror title Maid of Sker will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam later this month.

Maid of Sker is a first-person survival horror game that will send players back to 1898 as they explore the creepy Sker House in order to uncover the horror and mysteries that haunt that place. At the same time, they’ll need to muster up all their courage as they struggle for their own survival against dangerous creatures known as “the quiet ones.”

The game’s story is inspired by Welsh Mythology, specifically the legend of Elizabeth Williams, a young woman who was said to be trapped by her father in a room of Sker House to stop her from leaving with her beloved. Legends say that she died of a broken heart, and that her spirit now haunts the house, although it is believed that her spirit may not be the only one that haunts that place.

Maid of Sker features a sound-based AI system as its main survival mechanic, which means players will have to be mindful of the sounds in their surroundings — as well as the ones they produce themselves — if they hope to survive against the quiet ones. Further, since the survival elements are focused on sound, players won’t have weapons available to help them on their journey; they will only be armed with a sound device to help them get past the horrors lurking in the dark. This mechanic aims to have players feeling tension as they explore the creepy environments of the hotel and try to get past the dangerous enemies that roam its halls.

Maid of Sker will be available July 28 via Steam for PC players and will support uncapped 4K visuals. For Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players, the game will be available on digital stores as well as on a physical edition published by Perp Games. The console versions of the game will also feature enhancements for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X.
