Mario Party Superstars has launched on the Nintendo Switch, and people are definitely having a blast with it. However, gamers also have a few questions regarding the Nintendo’s new party game. Such as, is this actually a new entry into the series, or just a collection of past games? The other big question is related to the controller support. Specifically, the Switch Pro controller. Super Mario Party didn’t have great controller support, which was more than a little frustrating. Is that still the case here? Let’s find out.
Can You Play Mario Party Superstars With a Controller?
All 100 minigames found in Mario Party Superstars have proper button controls, meaning the game has full controller support. The same goes for each of the included boards as well. You can play using any controller supported by the Nintendo Switch. Even better, motion controls work on both Switch Lite and the standard Joy-Con controllers. The Switch Pro controller is also fully supported.
Mario Party Superstars is a collection of minigames and gameboards from previous entries in the series — some dating way back to the N64 era. It goes without saying, but there were no Switch Pro controllers back in those days. Many of them arrived before the rise of motion control input with the launch of the Wii. Luckily, Nintendo remastered many of these old minigames and made them compatible with modern controllers. And, unlike in the previous Mario Party release, all games have been updated with button-mapped inputs.
In short, Nintendo did a great job making sure every input option would work in Superstars. There’s no need to worry about the type of controller you’re using because the game supports all of them.
And just in case you’re also curious about the multiplayer, Mario Party Superstars supports both couch co-op and online play. That’s provided you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership of course. If you don’t, you and grab one for just $3.99 per month.
