In a game as punishing as Metroid Dread, you’ll want to upgrade your max health as quickly as possible. It’s the skill progression that lets Samus take more damage throughout Nintendo’s challenging 2D platformer. Unsurprisingly, it’s one of the key traits that’ll toe the line between survival and a repeating cycle of death screens. Fear not, as we take you through how to upgrade your max health in Metroid Dread.
What Is The Max Health in Metroid Dread?
You can upgrade your health up to a maximum of 1,299 in Metroid Dread. Each of the 13 bars on Samus’ health meter is worth 99 HP, and you can upgrade it 12 times total by finding Energy Tanks.
As such, there’s a staggering difference between the base health in Metroid Dread and the max health you can ultimately achieve. Of course, knowing that you can be twelve times as resilient to damage is likely to sway you towards upgrading your health as quickly as possible. Thankfully, that part is simple.
All you have to do to boost your health is collect Energy Tanks. There are 12 of these collectibles total, tucked away in various locations spread across the Metroid Dread map. Each tank boosts your Max Health by 99 points, or one bar on Samus’ health meter. Collecting them is a very easy process, as you simply have to walk over them. Equally, there’s no fiddling around on upgrade menus or skill trees. It’s as straightforward as spotting the tank and running into it.
Since Energy Tanks are scattered across the map, you won’t be able to hit max health at the start of Metroid Dread. The final tanks are near the end, meaning you can only get to full health once you’ve passed every other level in the game up to that point. Equally, they can be easy to miss, so keep an eye out. Thankfully, Metroid Dread‘s backtracking emphasis means if you do miss one, and you’re struggling with a battle, you can always go back and find it.
In other words, reaching max health in Metroid Dread isn’t an especially difficult task. It just requires plenty of exploration and story progression. For more help with the game, be sure to check out some of our other hot guides:
