PlayStation Showcase 2023 Highlights And Recap
There’s been some talk about how PlayStation hasn’t been announcing many titles for its console, but the showcase seems to have shaken that idea. This year’s PlayStation Showcase was all about the new games coming out alongside a few accessories. Many of the presented titles are unsurprisingly sequels to popular IPs or new entries in continuing series. It would take quite some time to give every game its due diligence, but there are some titles that are standing out more than others. It’s likely we’ll be seeing a lot more of this particular selection as the year continues.
The original Helldivers came out in 2015 with a fair amount of praise and play. It’s a top-down 3D shooter that you can play on your own or with friends as you pick up weapons and never take your finger off the Fire button. The PlayStation Showcase revealed a sequel to the chaotic shooter with a new perspective, new setting, new characters, new weapons, and new everything. You’ll get a chance to dive back into Hell give ’em Hell while you’re at it.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid has gone through many different phases, but it was Snake Eater that really defined the series. It had an intense journey following the most well-known version of Snake as he hunts down a menagerie of skilled and mutated soldiers led by his former mentor. It was to be expected that Konami would aim to remake what is arguably the best-received and most iconic entry in the series.
Alan Wake 2
Stephen King is a horror writer whose work has influenced many, and the game of Alan Wake to a startling degree. The story follows Alan, a successful writer plagued by a long bout of writer’s block. After he decides to get away with his wife, dark forces consume their vacation location and Alan is forced to fight the darkness. The base game and the spin-offs never fully resolved the story, so it’s exciting to see the tortured author return to form in Alan Wake 2.
Spider-Man is the poster hero for Marvel and for good reason. He has cool powers, a sharp wit, a cabal of colorful villains, and the full city of New York to explore. There is a vast collection of Spider-Man games, but the 2018 entry and Miles Morales were some of the most recent and most popular. So, it makes sense that these same folks are looking forward to these being combined in the upcoming Spider-Man 2. This was the ending to the PlayStation Showcase 2023, and it marked a spectacular finale.
