Puzzles are an integral part of the Resident Evil Village experience, so it’s likely that you’ve found yourself banging your head against the wall a few times, just trying to figure out how to progress. The torch puzzle comes just after your escape from the first of Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters and tasks you with opening a secret door in the wall to continue. In case you’re having trouble figuring it out, here’s how you do it.
How to Solve the Torch Puzzle in Resident Evil Village
As you have probably noticed, there are two standing braziers to either side of the hanging brazier, which is suspended from the ceiling. To solve the torch puzzle, you need to light these two standing braziers, which will, in turn, open the secret door. How do you do that? The trick is to use the hanging brazier, which is already burning, to light the other two. It can be a bit tricky to build up enough pendulous momentum in the right direction, but there are a few techniques you can try.
Simply walking into the hanging torch should be enough to get it moving. By repeatedly pushing it when it reaches the apex of its motion, much like pushing a kid on a swing, it is possible to get it to brush up against the other braziers. The physics of the suspended brazier are a bit funky though, so it may cause you some trouble. Your knife can be very useful here to combat these physics. Striking the brazier with your knife allows you to have much greater control over the direction that it swings, so if walking isn’t doing the trick for you, trying incorporating a few stabs to solve the torch puzzle.
Once that darned cradle of fire has built up the required momentum, it should light the standing braziers. I would recommend focusing on just one brazier at a time, as opposed to trying to build up enough momentum to get both in one motion. Once all the braziers are lit, the torch puzzle is complete and the secret entrance will open up, allowing you to progress further into Castle Dimitrescu.
