Stardew Valley is filled with amazing discoveries and secrets for players to find as they grow their farms. The game likes to cater to your personal choices and lifestyle, with many features evolving as you progress. However, one such feature seems to distinctively separate itself from the others, and it’s the Favorite Thing question that is asked during character creation. Some wonder what it does, others question its effects. But it’s simply a nice touch to the peaceful atmosphere of the game. Here, we answer the question: what does the Favorite Thing do in Stardew Valley?
What Does Favorite Thing Do in Stardew Valley?
So, what does Favorite Thing mean? The “Favorite Thing” in Stardew Valley is purely a personalized aspect with no gameplay effects. It’s meant only for the player whenever they consume one of the seven Stardrops in the game. When they do, one of two messages will pop up: “It’s strange but the taste reminds you of [Favorite Thing]” or “Your mind is filled with thoughts of [Favorite Thing]”. Whatever you typed into that section when creating your character will appear in the text.
We mentioned that there are seven Stardrops in Stardew Valley. Each requires some sort of milestone, so these will need some time to acquire. Here’s a quick list of how to get each Stardrop:
- Traded in for 2,000 Star Tokens at the Stardew Valley Fair.
- Looting the treasure chest on floor 100 within The Mines.
- When a relationship with a spouse or friendship with a roommate reaches 12.5 hearts. Additionally, if two players marry each other in multiplayer, they’ll receive the Stardrop in the form of a gift box.
- Krobus can sell you one for 20,000g within The Sewers.
- Give Old Master Cannoli a Sweet Gem Berry in the Secret Woods.
- A letter from Willy will appear one day after you acquire the Master Angler Achievement.
- Donate all 95 items to the Museum with Gunther.
Once you collect a Stardrop, you must consume it on the spot. There’s no way to eat it later, probably due to its cosmic and exotic properties. This also means that you won’t be able to sell them at any point. Each individual Stardrop will increase your Energy by 34, and their buffs will be permanently established for your character.
How to Get the Favorite Thing Easter Egg
If you thought that the Favorite Thing was only meant for you, think again! There are actually a couple of Easter Eggs that can be activated by entering specific text into the Favorite Thing section. If you set your Favorite Thing to “ConcernedApe”, the text will read: “You found a stardrop! Your mind is filled with thoughts of… ConcernedApe? (Well, thanks!).” This, of course, is a direct reference to Stardew Valley‘s developer, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone.
The other secret message occurs when you enter anything with “Stardew” in the text. The message will read: “You found a stardop! You feel an unwavering connection to the valley itself…”
Aside from these secret messages and Stardrops, the Favorite Thing feature doesn’t affect your gameplay. It’s just a little nod to your personal favorite person, place, or thing whenever you consume a Stardrop. Happy farming, folks!
